No, you do not need both. The full Passport app includes built-in reader functionality. It will seamlessly scan and accept other shared profiles, displaying all the emergency information that the Reader app would show.
Any profile imported into the full app remains strictly protected: it cannot be modified or re-shared without entering the original 4-digit PIN. The standalone Oink Care Reader is provided specifically for sitters, teachers, and occasional carers who only need to view profiles without purchasing the full creation suite.
Your care passports are stored strictly on your device's local memory for as long as the app remains on your phone. Because Oink Care is air-gapped and private, we never store your records on cloud servers.
Since your profiles exist solely on your phone, we strongly recommend keeping an external backup so you can retrieve your records if your phone is ever lost, broken, or replaced. If you are experiencing delays, try sharing the QR code directly (via message or email) and having the recipient save the image to their device's camera roll so they can open it cleanly inside the app. Alternatively, you can share the exportable .oink profile file instead.
When creating a QR pass from the Passport app, you select how long the pass should remain active: 1 Hour, 24 Hours, 7 Days, or Permanent. That timestamp is built into the code. When the Reader scans it, it checks against the local clock and automatically locks the pass once time has elapsed.
